⚠️ DANGER: Destructive Script Warning

This script permanently deletes directories and ALL their contents!

Files deleted with rm -rf CANNOT be recovered
No recycle bin or trash - deletion is immediate and permanent
Can delete entire directory trees including subdirectories
Always double-check the directory path before running

Purpose

This script is designed to clean up simulation output directories in the SOAPY project. It's commonly used to remove the intermediate/ directories that contain large binary dump files from completed simulations.

Usage

./cleanup.sh <directory_name>

Example:

# Remove intermediate simulation data
./cleanup.sh intermediate

# Remove a specific output directory
./cleanup.sh output_test_run

Safety Features

The enhanced script now includes several safety checks:

Argument verification - Ensures a directory name is provided
Existence check - Verifies the directory exists before attempting deletion
Path display - Shows the full absolute path of the directory to be deleted
Size information - Displays directory size and file count
Confirmation prompt - Requires explicit "yes" confirmation before deletion
Graceful cancellation - Any response other than "yes" cancels the operation
